it appears that the stitching is so fine that it is waterproof
The spotted look of palmwood is caused by fossilized rod-like structures within the original wood
This is a great example of a folklore and belief that stretched for many centuries
It is still an impressive fossil having been found on the seabed in the North sea
I can only assume that this has been lying either in peaty water or in a peaty area as the bone colour is a lovely caramel yellow colour which just highlights the white of the teeth

Judging by the brass fittings etc, this is a nice early example dating to late 19th or early 20th Century. Given the age of this item it is still in remarkably good condition. The model is of the larynx and the top of the trachea. The model splits open to show vocal cords, muscles cartilage, veins and nerves. There are still a lot of very small numbered stickers on the model which
