Victorian Eagle Intaglio Signet Ring FIDE AC DIFFIDE jade More than likely it wasDATE: Victorian, c. 1880 A superb Victorian carnelian signet ring with heraldic intaglio crest and motto. The crest depicts an eagle's head, above a banner with the Latin FIDE AC DIFFIDE, or "Faith and Distrust" (although I'm a little unsure about the "ac"). The ring is a good size, and modelled in 18 karat gold, dating from circa 1880. The crest and motto belongs Samual James Augustus Salter, as per the entry in Fairbairn: "Salter, Samuel James
