The scene depicts the Thomas viaduct on Baltimore and Washington Railroad. The scene is from a steel engraving done in 1838 by H. Adlard, a prolific engraver in London at the time. The platter is part of the Old Baltimore Views by Enoch Woods. At its completion, the Thomas Viaduct was the largest railroad bridge in the United States and the country's first
