Namesake: Nicknamed the orator, the morning star and the heart and soul of the womens rights movement, Lucy Stone (1818 1893) was a pioneer in the suffragist movement and lectured against slavery. Lucy advocated for equal pay for women and was the first woman in Massachusetts to earn a college degree.
