When he was discharged, he came home to New Orleans and plied his GI trade as Tip Top shoe repair on Gravier Street, in New Orleans, till 1998. Singer made cobbler's leather sewing machines, and you can see his picture with a Singer machine in the background. For all I know this may be the case his British machine came from. The top is
