Art Deco Shagreen Sapphire Cabochon Case 17th century were pioneered by Apsley PellattDATE: Art Deco, c. 1920 This fantastic shagreen case dates from the Art Deco period, circa 1920, and made by Appay Paris. Shagreen, characterised by its pebbly texture is traditionally made from the skin of sharks, stingrays, or dogfish. Popular during the 1920's, it was considered a luxury and was used on objects such as this case. Set with a lovely sapphire cabochon "button", the shagreen displays a grey blue colour in contrast.
